What the hect is a “Peplum”

by DressWithPurpose

So when I decided a few months ago to make my passion a reality and really started studying fashion on a different level, wanting to understand how clothing can enhance areas that we might want to hide, I discovered the word “Peplum”.  What a lovely word it is, it originates from the Greek – Peplos (tunic – a word for a later post), and was a woman’s garment worn in Grecian acient times.  Looking at the current styling trends it is a short overskirt that is usually attached to a fitted jacket, blouse or dress, but can also be seen on skirts and sweaters.

The images above are all items available on ModCloth.com.  The reason I love this look is that this short overskirt can cover a multitude of sins… For me I have no rear end or defined hip shape, so this will give me the illusion of having hips and add volume to my backside.  For the hourglass shape or plus size shape this can give you a defined waistline and be a powerful enhancement to your curves and curves are beautiful.

Don’t be afraid to try on a “Peplum” see how it makes you feel and see if it enhances your beautiful body!  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask me and Choose Everyday to “Dress With Purpose”.
